"Chavez left a legacy as an educator, environmentalist, and a civil rights leader. And his cause lives on. As farm workers and laborers across America continue to struggle for fair treatment and fair wages, we find strength in what Cesar Chavez accomplished so many years ago. And we should honor him for what he's taught us about making America a stronger, more just, and more prosperous nation. That's why I support the call to make Cesar Chavez's birthday a national holiday. It's time to recognize the contributions of this American icon to the ongoing efforts to perfect our union."
Senator Barack Obama March 31, 2008.
As you know, this blog is against Illegal Immigration. The Farm workers struggle for fair pay for back breaking work often falls into the category of "JOBS AMERICANS WON'T DO" That is if you are President Bush. We aren't for exploiting people... and we WANT THE COST OF GROCERIES TO REMAIN LOW don't we? SO WHAT GIVES? We have programs that allow some immigrants to become citizens faster because they take work like this, but once they are citizens guess what they are to be paid? MINIMUM WAGE.
Oh this problem is complicated.
Who is really at fault? We want to eat a variety of foods including fruits and vegetables... right? Organic?
I would really like to hear from some readers on this issue.
