PITTSBURGH POST GAZETTE REPORTER WENT SHOPPING LOOKING FOR MADE IN THE USA

Patricia Sabatini, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reporter, went shopping for MADE IN THE USA, and here is her story, first posted in March 2010. A SAD BUT TRUE STORY....

"For example, there were five brands of imported blenders on the shelves, all either made in China or Mexico. They included Hamilton Beach, Chefmate, Oster, Black & Decker and Bella Cucina. Each brand had two or more models to choose from, ranging in price from $13.99 to $71.49.
When it came to the lone U.S.-made brand, the Waring Pro, there was just one model, priced at $59.99."

WE SAY GO FOR THE WARING PRO!

FIESTA WARE IS STILL MADE IN THE UNITED STATES

UPDATE MAY 2012 : We recently saw MADE IN CHINA Heavy Plastic Fiesta Ware style and lable being sold (not so inexpensively) at a discount store and were really upset. We just checked the web site linked here and it appears all is well with genuine Fiesta Ware made in the United States. Please, double check with the companies, even if we post. There are often changes we can't keep up with...

THE HOMER LAUGHLIN CHINA COMPANY is still in business.... since 1871 PROUDLY MADE IN THE UNITES STATES! (link above!)

Memories of growing up with Fiesta Ware on the Table.... I still have and use a set in classic white!

Remember the Betty Crocker Catalogue? Unfortunately several of the AMERICAN COMPANIES they featured have closed down in the last 10 years. ALL THOSE JOBS gone!

SILVERWARE MADE IN THE USA RARE ! BUT POSSIBLE

OK... we did a little research and though we are not certain that what the SILVERSUPERSTORE says is true (because we found ads with claims of Made in the USA) we are linking to them because their site SEEMS TO BE AWARE that patriotic purchasers are on the look out for AMERICAN MADE flatware or cutlery.

"Previously, there were no stainless flatware patterns that were made in the USA since the Oneida factory shut down in the spring of 2005. Finally though, there are several stainless flatware patterns that are exclusively manufactured in the United States, with steel that's also made in the USA."

THEY FEATURE FOUR PATTERNS: Pearls by Revolution, Hudson by Revolution, Montgomery by Revolution, and Saratoga by Revolution....

THESE ARE MADE FOR THEM BY SHERRILL MANUFACTURING

RECYCLE ! A THRIFTY HABIT TO GET INTO NOW

This morning I saw a crowd around the closest recycling center. Seems that due to finances, more people are recycling - and that includes dumpster diving and otherwise picking up bottles and cans that one did not purchase beverages in, in the first place.

RECYCLING is a HABIT to get into because it is also GOOD FOR THE ECOLOGY!

And check out some of the new plastic bottles like that of DASANI WATER, a product of the Coca-Cola Company that uses PLANT-BOTTLE TM technology; 30 percent of this plastic is from plants!
